Local Member of Parliament, Kate Griffiths, last week (5th November) joined the celebrations to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Langan’s Tea Rooms in Burton.
The award-winning café in George Street, which is owned and run by the Burton Addiction Centre (BAC), has now been operating for a decade.
The tea rooms provide opportunities for individuals recovering from addiction to gain valuable employment experience, and vital skills to help them return to the workplace.
Kate joined founder and director of BAC, Noreen Oliver MBE, to mark the special occasion, and to thank Noreen for the incredible work she and her staff do to provide such life-changing support.
The Rt Hon Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP—former Leader of the Conservative Party and former Secretary of State for Work & Pensions, as well as founder of the Centre for Social Justice—also attended the celebration, having opened Langan’s a decade ago, and been a significant supporter of the work BAC does to help those in rehabilitation services.
The celebration also included unveiling a brass plaque marking Ms Griffiths’ appointment as one of BAC’s newest charitable patrons.
Commenting, Kate Griffiths, MP for Burton & Uttoxeter, said:
“Langan’s has become a go-to destination for anyone visiting Burton town centre. Their food is superb, and so it is no surprise to any of us locally that they have had ten successful years.
“But, most importantly, in that time, Langan’s and BAC have transformed countless lives, and given people the opportunity to have a second chance.
“It was wonderful to be able to celebrate that work today, and I am truly honoured to have been appointed as a patron of this fantastic Burton charity.”
