“I want to reassure constituents that I am fully aware of the situation of a hotel in Burton being used as temporary accommodation for asylum seekers. I am deeply concerned that neither I nor the local authorities were consulted about this matter and were only made aware of it at short notice.
“I have been in touch with the Immigration Minister and Home Office officials to raise my concerns about this location, and to highlight my deep dissatisfaction about how this decision was reached. I have asked for an urgent response and for answers to questions I have asked about how this will be managed.
“Specifically, I want guarantees that appropriate covid testing regimes will be implemented, that quarantine measures will be in place and that there will be appropriate monitoring and security to ensure these are adhered to and the wider community are not impacted.
“I will continue to press both ministers and Home Office officials about this decision and will continue to keep residents updated as much as I can.”
