Burton and Uttoxeter's Member of Parliament, Kate Griffiths, is calling on the public to support her call to rename Burton's parliamentary constituency. The Boundary Commission is currently consulting on redrawn parliamentary boundaries which would see the population in each of the 650 Westminster seats made more equal.
The Commission's initial proposals would see the Burton constituency remain unaffected with no areas moving in or out of the current boundaries. However, Kate Griffiths MP is urging the Boundary Commission to formally change the name of the constituency from Burton to Burton and Uttoxeter to better reflect the makeup of the seat. Kate is calling on the local public to support her call during the Commission's first round of consultation which ends on 2nd August. Following a review of responses, the Boundary Commission will undergo a further round of consultation on amended proposals before Parliament is required to adopt them in 2023 for the next General Election.
Kate Griffiths MP said:
"I am pleased to see in the Boundary Commissions proposals that the current Burton constituency will remain unaffected but it is an appropriate juncture to officially change the name of the constituency to highlight the importance of Uttoxeter. Uttoxeter is a vibrant and historic market town that rightly deserves to be included in the official name.
"I am proud to represent both towns and always refer to being the MP for Burton and Uttoxeter but I would urge the public to support my call to the Boundary Commission to make this name official."
