Kate Kniveton. An experienced local champion.
Kate was born in Burton and has lived locally all her life. Being local, Kate knows this area, its residents and what matters to them.
Kate is not a career politician. Before being elected as an MP, Kate worked for various businesses in sales and logistics, including for an international exporter in Derby and locally at Burton Albion FC. Kate’s interest in politics began from an early age when she was involved in Burton’s local Conservative Party but in recent years she felt the calling to step up and make a difference.
Kate was first elected in the General Election of December 2019, winning the Burton and Uttoxeter seat with the largest ever share of the vote for the constituency since 1935 with 29,560 votes. Kate was honoured to have been elected as Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, her home area.
Since the election, Kate has voted to get Brexit done as elected to do. Kate, along with 63% of voters in Burton and Uttoxeter, voted for Brexit back in 2016 and many more now want to move on now and focus on the people’s priorities.
During the Coronavirus health pandemic, Kate supported hundreds of constituents and businesses impacted by the virus and secured additional funding for Queen’s Hospital to upgrade A&E facilities ahead of winter.
Kate has also been vigorously campaigning to secure vital upgrades to local roads and infrastructure that will make a real difference to the everyday lives of residents, including the A50 and the A38. In July 2020, Kate Griffiths was asked to be the ‘Project Champion’ for the North Midlands Manufacturing Corridor (NMMC) by Midlands Connect which work to develop local transport proposals for Government. In this, Kate is playing a leading part in standing up for the region and lobbying Government for further investment across Staffordshire and the North Midlands.
Another area Kate is campaigning on is regenerating our high streets and town centres. Kate has been working closely with local councillors and Ministerial colleagues to invest in our town and to ensure that local high streets are fit for the future. Burton has already been chosen to benefit from the Government’s Towns Fund with its share of cash possibly being used to create new green spaces and to encourage walking or cycling locally.
Separately, Kate has also been looking for additional opportunities for funding towards the Uttoxeter Masterplan which will see investment in the town in line with growth and upgrading of existing facilities.
Since being elected, Kate has been resolute in her support for local agriculture and brewery sectors, standing up for them in Westminster and making sure the views of the big local employers are known when it comes to future trade policies.
Outside of politics, Kate has one child, who was born at Queen's Hospital. As a working single mum, Kate understands life can sometimes be quite tough and that everyone needs a helping hand from time-to-time. That is why Kate’s door will always be open to residents to help resolve their problems and to be a voice for them and other local people in Westminster.
Now the dissolution of Parliament has taken place, Kate is no longer a Member of Parliament. Kate is standing once again as the Conservative Party parliamentary candidate for Burton and Uttoxeter.
