Kate Kniveton MP visits BSDC to see reality of futuristic investment
The Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, Kate Kniveton, visited Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) on Thursday 7th March to see the latest investment into the local education facility following funding being awarded by central Government.
The new investment has been added to the town centre campus and includes a mechatronics suite, cyber security lab, creative digital learning hub, games development suite as well as a health and social care suite.
The local MP met with the Chief Executive of BSDC, Dawn Ward CBE DL, and its Principle, John Beaty, to tour the new futuristic facilities, made possible by the Government investment as part of the Stronger Towns Fund, and see the opportunities it is creating for local young people.
The new facilities, equipment and courses were specifically selected by the College as industries identified with growing demand for future employment. The College prides itself on having outstanding connections and engagement with local businesses, helping to understand employer needs future labour market growth areas.
Ms Kniveton met with students studying in the new facilities and heard about their ambitions and prospects for future careers in new and emerging industries.

“It was great to be invited by Dawn and John from BSDC to see how the Government Stronger Towns Fund has been invested into Burton and the opportunities this has created for local young people.
“Many of the students in BSDC are studying and learning skills that did not exist only a few years ago. From software development to cyber security, BSDC’s excellent relationships with businesses and growing sectors of our economy, mean that our local young people are not only learning cutting-edge skills but also have high levels of employability too.
“I have said many times before, the future success of Burton as a town relies on the success for our young people. Judging by the impressive facilities, and the students I met, I have no doubt that Burton has a bright future.”
