The Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, Kate Kniveton MP, has warned the Labour administration at East Staffordshire Borough Council not to increase fees for council-owned car parks as part of the Local Authority’s review.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP said:
“I would urge the Labour administration at East Staffordshire Borough Council not to consider increases in parking charges for our town centres as part of the review into the one-size-fits all tariff schedule. Any increase for our town centres could not come at a worse time as families juggle increasing pressures on their household finances.
“Furthermore, any increase in fees would be a major blow for retailers, who are already working incredibly hard to attract shoppers back into our town centres. I am pleased to have secured £22.5million for Burton town centre. The Council must not squander this money or the opportunity by pricing out residents from traveling to visit at the first hurdle.
“I would encourage all residents to contact their local councillors and make sure they are aware of your views, before the proposals are voted on by the Council.”
