Uttoxeter MP, Kate Kniveton, has today (15/06/23) visited Lower Loxley Farm with Mark Spencer MP, the Government’s Farming Minister, to speak to local farmers and see the dairy cattle.
The family-owned farm is managed by long-time Staffordshire farmer, David Brookes, who guided the local MP and Minister around his dairy farm to highlight the investment made to improve animal welfare and increase milk yields. The farm’s livestock buildings are home to a herd of 220 Holstein Friesian cows all attended to by Mr Brookes and his daughters who are actively involved in the day-to-day running of the farm, securing the next generation of dairy farmers in Lower Loxley.
Before departing, the Minister was thanked by the group for his time, and they also thanked Kate Kniveton MP for facilitating what was considered a fruitful meeting by all who attended.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP said:
“Farming is a key part of our local economy here in Staffordshire and it is thanks to farmers in Burton and Uttoxeter, such as David Brookes, that we are able to enjoy British produce with high-quality animal welfare standards.
“I would like to thank the Minister for visiting Burton and Uttoxeter today to visit Lower Loxley Farm and to meet with local members of the NFU, engaging with them and hear their priorities for the British farming sector.
“I will continue to do all I can to support farmers here in the constituency and ensure any concerns they may have are heard by ministerial colleagues in Government.”
