Local Member of Parliament, Kate Kniveton, has welcomed £100,000 for Rolleston Brook Flood Alleviation Scheme, as part of the Government’s Frequently Flooded Allowance programme. The funding is intended to help smaller communities that have a history of being repeatedly flooded with the relative complexity and costs of the solutions.
Rolleston-on-Dove is set to be one for the first 53 projects in England to benefit from the new £100million Frequently Flooded Allowance. Projects will improve resilience to flooding, with a mixture of hard engineering flood defences and natural flood management measures.
Since Ms Kniveton’s election, the local MP has worked closely with Rolleston-on-Dove Parish Council, local residents, the Environment Agency and Staffordshire County Council to see what could be done to mitigate against flooding and rising water levels in the village’s Brook.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP said:
“Flooding can cause misery and devastation to those and the properties that it affects. Those whose property it affects live in fear each winter or whenever there is a long spell of heavy rain, that their home and their treasured possessions could be at risk.
“That is why we must do all we can to ensure that the impacts of flooding are managed, and properties at risk are protected. Having worked closely with the Rolleston community on the perennial issue of the Brook flooding, I know just how welcome this funding and the alleviation measures it will pay for will be.
“I will continue to work with the local community and all the agencies involved as we see the implementation of today’s new funding.”
