Kate Kniveton, Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, has today (9th February 2023) met with the Chief Executive Officer of the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, Stephen Posey.
Meeting at Queen’s Hospital, the Trust CEO updated the local MP on the current situation at Burton’s hospital and how he and his medical team had been working to support staff and patients through a period of intense winter pressures.
Mr Posey also updated Burton’s MP on the progress and positive impact that the hospital’s new £23 million purpose-built Treatment Centre is having on the Trust’s ability to help reduce the backlog of appointments following on from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The visit by the local MP follows recent announcements from central Government including £3,936,000 to support patient discharge and an additional £5.5million for local NHS mental health urgent and emergency care services. Both additional funding announcements are designed to help ease pressures on A&E units and ensure patients can be treated better in community settings, where appropriate.

“I am grateful to Mr Stephen Posey for meeting with me at Queen’s Hospital in Burton today and for providing me with an update on how the local NHS Trust is managing currently with winter pressures and tackling the backlog from Covid-19.
“It was a constructive and positive meeting, and I was pleased to be able to meet and thank staff for all the work they are doing to treat patients in their care.
“One of the Government’s priorities for this year is to cut waiting lists and so I am pleased to hear that the new Treatment Centre we have here in Burton is working to that effect. I will continue to work closely with Mr Posey to do all I can to help ensure our local hospitals and NHS staff have the resources they need to care for patients.”
