Following the news that Molson Coors will move its Head Office to the National Brewery Centre, I have been calling for a public meeting to ensure that the public’s concerns are heard, and their questions answered about the future of Burton’s brewing heritage.
Earlier this week, I met with representatives from Molson Coors and I am pleased to say they confirmed their commitment to attend a public meeting soon. I am delighted that they think this is a good idea, and I know they are keen to reassure Burton’s residents of their commitment to protecting the exhibits currently housed at the National Brewery Centre, enabling town centre regeneration and keeping their Head Office people and jobs in the town.
I understand that many constituents will want this meeting to take place ahead of the proposed closure on the 31st October, and whilst a meeting as soon as possible would be good, I want to ensure that they and other stakeholders have sufficient time to work through the details so they are able to answer the many questions I know will be raised.
We all want to know about the ownership of the artefacts, and the future of the larger exhibits, and Molson Coors are currently meeting with the National Brewery Centre Trust, East Staffordshire Borough Council, and others to determine the answers to these issues, and they will shortly update me on when they will be able to provide further details.
I am confident that given the public support for our brewing heritage, all parties involved in these conversations will work at speed to get plans in place ready to present at a public meeting. If you would like to be kept informed about the forthcoming meeting, please do drop me an email at [email protected], and I would be happy to keep you updated.
