“I am pleased that the Prime Minister has taken the decision to resign.
“It was clear that he no longer commanded the support of the parliamentary party or the British public and it was in the national interest for him to make his intention to stand down as Prime Minister clear.
“The business of Government must continue and the process to find a successor should begin in earnest. As I said only yesterday, I will continue to fight to secure the investment Burton and Uttoxeter deserves, to level up our towns and invest in our local area.”
