It was wonderful to see images last weekend of HM The Queen enjoying the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Having missed seeing her at the State Opening of Parliament it was lovely to see her enjoying one of her favourite hobbies, horse riding, ahead of what is going to be a very busy time for her and our country.
In just a couple of weeks’ time we will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. This will be our opportunity to come together as a community and a country to pay tribute to the Queen and her service to this nation.
The bumper 4-day bank holiday weekend will see many fantastic events and activities between 2nd – 5th June to celebrate this incredible milestone. In Burton, the big attraction is the event supported by East Staffordshire Borough Council at Regatta Field and Stapenhill Gardens. This will see an exciting programme of workshops, stalls and performances across two days. This includes children’s crafts, balloon modelling, a fairground carousel, games, food, local artisan market and a double-decker bus bar! There will also be local bands, theatre performances and comedy from Just The Tonic Comedy Club.
There are also many other events including church services, beacon lightings and garden parties in many of the surrounding villages which are hotly billed to be a feast of victoria sponges and cucumber sandwiches. To help you plan your weekend, I have put together a list on my website of all the events I know taking place in our area. You can find this by visiting www.kategriffiths.org.uk/HMPlatinumWeekend.
If you are part of a community group or parish council which is hosting an event and would like to add it to my list of local events, then please email me on [email protected].
