Kate Griffiths, MP for Uttoxeter, commenting on today's news from Elkes Biscuit factory, said:
“The news that the owners of Elkes Biscuit factory in Uttoxeter are looking to sell the site will come as a concern to all their employees and their families.
“I join those calling for a buyer to come forward as soon as possible to secure the future of the site and give certainty to its workers. The town of Uttoxeter is very proud to make many of the nation’s favourite biscuits, and I hope that an investor will recognise the opportunity that this business and its workforce has to offer.
“I stand ready to help the factory workers in any way I can, but efforts must be focussed right now on finding a new owner to secure the future of the site before the staff consultation ends in March next year.”
