Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, Kate Kniveton, recently visited Unilever UK’s factory on Wellington Road in Burton, A site which makes many household favourite condiments, including Marmite, Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, Colman’s Mustard, and Bovril.
The local MP met with Richard Sharp, Head of Unilever UK, to hear about the site’s operation in Burton and what plans the company had for the future. Mr Sharp told the MP what efforts the company was making to reduce the use of plastic materials in their products’ packaging and the efforts underway to make the business even more environmentally sustainable for the future.
During a tour of the factory, the MP also met Helen Fenwick, Sustainable Business & Communications Senior Manager; Silviu Damoc, Burton Factory Director and Ben Wadlow, Burton Operations Manager, who gave Ms Kniveton a detailed explanation of the factory’s manufacturing processes to making some of Britain’s best-known brands.
The site visited also included the opportunity for the Burton MP to meet with some of Unilever’s apprentices who work at the factory and hear about the opportunities the company has on offer to local young people.

“It was great to meet with Richard Sharp and his team from Unilever UK. It is fantastic that the manufacturing home of some of our nation’s favourite sauces is right here in Burton.
“The operations the company has in our town is a real sign of confidence in our local economy, with products being added to the supply lines of this site, all whilst looking to do this in a more sustainable way for our environment.
“I very much enjoyed meeting with the local apprentices, as they start a career with a big-name company that has excellent future job progression prospects. I wish them and the whole Burton Unilever team the very best for the future!”
