Kate Kniveton MP has shown her support for British food and farming in Parliament today on Back British Farming Day, recognising the vital role farmers in Burton and Uttoxeter play in feeding the nation.
The Local MP met with National Farmers Union (NFU) President, Minette Batters, and was given an emblem for the day, a British wool and wheatsheaf pin badge. This symbolises the fantastic products British food and farming provides and recognises an industry which provides jobs for almost 4 million people and is worth more than £120 billion to the national economy.
Alongside recognising the work farmers do for the nation, Back British Farming Day provides the perfect opportunity to acknowledge important contributions farmers make to their communities. This year the NFU has introduced the Community Farming Heroes award to celebrate the farmers who have gone above and beyond for their local community.
It was an honour for Kate Kniveton MP to nominate Rob Atkin from Atkin Farm near Uttoxeter to be an NFU’s Community Farming Hero. The local MP will present Rob and his team with a certificate from the NFU in the near future.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP, said:
“I am incredibly proud to represent the farmers and growers here in Burton and Uttoxeter and show my recognition for their work by supporting Back British Farming Day.
“I was incredibly proud to recognise Rob Atkin from Atkin Farm for all their work is doing to practice regenerative agriculture methods and improve soil health. Farmers across Burton and Uttoxeter are critical to our national food security and guardians of our local environment. Not to mention, the produce they grow and rear showcases the best of British farming!
“Events over the past few years have shown us just how important it is to have a resilient farming sector, producing quality food for both home and abroad while shaping the land around us. That’s why I believe it is so important to recognise the significance of British agriculture and all it delivers to the nation.”
