Burton and Uttoxeter’s Member of Parliament, Kate Kniveton, has today (10th October 2023) welcomed the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak MP, to St. George’s Park, the Home of England’s Football Team ahead of the official announcement that the UK and Ireland will jointly host the 2028 UEFA European Football Championship.
The local MP joined the PM on his visit to St. George’s Park to meet the England Team and Manager, Gareth Southgate.
As part of its bid to host the football contest, the UK Government highlighted Great Britain’s track record of holding international sporting events from the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the Women’s Euros in 2022. The Government has also said that it will work to use this tournament to ensure it brings local communities together, benefits local economies and gets everyone fit and active.
