Local Member of Parliament, Kate Kniveton, has today (08/04/24) visited Forget me Not Café at Wilfred House in Uttoxeter, a support group for people with dementia and their carers. The Café is the work of volunteers from Uttoxeter Rotary Club and is led by local resident and Club Vice President, Kate Nash MBE.
Kate Nash identified the need for a facility to support people with dementia as well as their caregivers in Uttoxeter and the group now has around twenty regular attendees.
The Café provides conversation, games and fun to those suffering with dementia as well as respite to their care givers. Some weeks there are specific activities, and during the MP’s visit Dave Marriott and his team from Redfern's Cottage were leading a memory stimulating activity with different items from the museum’s archive.
Also joining the MP on her visit was Uttoxeter Rotary Club President, David Rushton, and Uttoxeter Town Mayor, Cllr. Helen Headech.
The Café is part of a wider Rotary National and Global Initiative to raise awareness and support those affected by dementia.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP said:
“I was really pleased to be invited and join today’s Forget me Not Café session at Wilfred House in Uttoxeter for people with dementia and their caregivers. Dementia is a cruel disease which can take away the person we know and love, and the Café provides a warm and welcoming place for those affected by dementia as well as their caregivers.
“Kate Nash and her team have done an incredible job establishing this group, and the connections it has made for both those with dementia and those looking after someone with dementia, are clearly a real lifeline. I will do whatever I can to support the group and Kate Nash to ensure that they can continue to help those locally affected by dementia.”
