The Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, Kate Kniveton, last night (09/05/24) held a meeting in Marchington Village Hall for residents to hear from local flood authorities.
Ms Kniveton chaired the meeting whilst representatives from Staffordshire County Council, the Environment Agency and Severn Trent made presentations on measures they are each working on to protect local properties and mitigate against surface water collecting on the B5017. Residents were then able to ask questions of each of the flood authorities on any local issues or concerns they had.
Since Ms Kniveton’s election, the local MP has worked closely with residents and the relevant flood authorities to secure new funding and measures to mitigate against flooding and rising water levels locally. Ms Kniveton has also worked to ensure better communication with residents and the local parish councils, giving them opportunities to ask questions and contribute to flooding resolutions.
On Thursday 23rd May, Ms Kniveton will be hosting a similar meeting for Rolleston-on-Dove. If you live in the village and would like to attend, please get in touch with Ms Kniveton’s office by emailing [email protected] or calling 01283 384026 for more details.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP:
“This evening, I hosted and chaired a meeting for residents of Marchington and Draycott in the Clay on flooding matters.
“Whilst we have made progress and secured additional funding, it is important that residents are kept informed with how this money is being spent and how it will help mitigate against flooding. I know residents and parish councillors found it informative and that the flood authorities also benefited from hearing local input.
“Questions were raised about clearance of drains, asset maintenance, dredging the river and the pumping station, and the relevant stakeholders have taken away action points to follow up.
“I will continue to press the relevant authorities to ensure they deliver on their commitments to residents and to the villages of Marchington and Draycott.”
