Local Member of Parliament, Kate Kniveton, is set to host two public meetings on flooding to give residents the opportunity to hear what local authorities are doing to tackle these problems and the measures available to protect properties and businesses.
The first meeting will take place on Thursday, 9th May for Marchington and Draycott-in-the-Clay residents with another scheduled for Thursday 23rd May for Rolleston-on-Dove. Both meetings will take place between 6 – 7.30pm.
Representatives will be attending the public meetings from the Environment Agency, Staffordshire County Council and Severn Trent, each giving a short presentation before taking residents' questions. The respective East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council councillors for each area have also been invited to attend.
Since Ms Kniveton’s election, the local MP has worked closely with local residents and the relevant flood authorities to secure new funding and measures and to mitigate against flooding and rising water levels locally. Ms Kniveton also helped secure £100K from the Government’s Frequently Flooded Allowance programme for Rolleston.
For security reasons, the location of each meeting will be disclosed to those confirming their attendance. To book a place for either meeting, email [email protected] or call 01283 384026.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP said:
“Flooding is a particularly prevalent issue in our rural communities. Since my election, I have worked closely with local residents, parish councils and the flooding authorities to provide more funding and measures to protect properties and businesses from rising river levels.
Whilst we have made progress and secured additional funding, it is important that residents are kept informed with how this money is being spent and how it will help mitigate against flooding. That is why I am putting on two public meetings and invited the Environment Agency, Staffordshire County Council and Severn Trent to be able to speak with residents.
If you are a resident of Rolleston, Marchington or Draycott, I would encourage you to get in touch with my office and come along to the meeting to hear more and to ask questions.”
