The Member of Parliament for Burton, Kate Kniveton, has welcomed the news today (28/06/2023) that the Boundary Commission has accepted her proposal to include Uttoxeter in the official name of the parliamentary seat. Currently, Ms Kniveton refers to her constituency as ‘Burton and Uttoxeter’, but its official name is ‘Burton’.
The final plans published by the Boundary Commission outline the final details of the new constituencies with which the next General Election will be fought on, concluding an extensive review to ensure that all parliamentary constituencies have relatively the same population. There are no geographical changes to the existing Burton constituency but in today’s publication the name has been changed to Burton and Uttoxeter.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP said:
“I am delighted that the Boundary Commission has agreed to my proposals to include Uttoxeter in the official name of the parliamentary seat. The name change, to include Uttoxeter, is something I have been calling for from the very beginning of the review process back in 2020.
“I know Uttoxeter residents will join me in welcoming this name change, and to what I see as a long overdue correction. It is the greatest privilege to serve both towns in Parliament and I will continue to stand up for both our towns and the villages within East Staffordshire.”
