Burton and Uttoxeter’s Member of Parliament, Kate Griffiths, has today (16th December) visited and seen first-hand the massive logistical operation underway at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton which has been set up as a local vaccine-delivery centre.
Kate, who was invited by the Chair of the local Primary Care Network, Dr David Atherton, to visit the vaccine centre volunteered to support efforts in protecting residents against Coronavirus. Kate assisted healthcare workers in their work and transferred people waiting to receive the vaccine.
Currently, the vaccination programme is prioritising the elderly and extremely vulnerable before it is made available more widely to the general public in the coming weeks and months ahead.
In the first 7 days of the vaccination programme, the UK has provisionally administered 137,897 inoculations to vulnerable and elderly residents, helping protect them against COVID19. This number does not fully include the now hundreds of Primary Care Networks that have been operationalised like the Pirelli Stadium, meaning the number of people vaccinated is expected to be much higher.
Kate Griffiths MP said, “It was great to be able to see first-hand the rolling out of the vaccination programme and how this is taking shape locally here in Burton. This has been a difficult year for everyone but the news, and now reality, of a vaccine being delivered gives us hope that better times ahead are in reach.”
“I want to say a huge thank you to Dr Atherton and the team for inviting me but particaurly for the crucial work they are doing at delivering the vaccination scheme - the largest in the NHS’s history. I would also like to pay tribute to the Chairman of Burton Albion, Ben Robinson OBE, and Burton Albion Community Trust for allowing the use of their stadium to the vaccination programme.”
“I would urge all constituents when the time comes and they are called up, to receive the vaccine and protect themselves and others against COVID-19. It is our quickest route out of the pandemic and back to normality.”
