Burton and Uttoxeter’s Member of Parliament, Kate Griffiths, is calling on local pubs, clubs and bars to take part in this year’s World’s Biggest Pub Quiz in aid of Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity.
Each year the UK pub industry comes together through the organisation PubAid to raise money for good causes and its Pub Quiz is back for the first time after a year away due to Covid.
PubAid is asking pubs to run the quiz between 9th and 15th May 2022, though there is flexibility to host it at any time during May, and the Burton and Uttoxeter MP is urging as many local pubs to take part as possible.
The World’s Biggest Pub Quiz was launched by PubAid in 2016 and has since raised more than £750,000 for hundreds of charities and good causes. Statistics from PubAid suggest that UK pubs raise more than £100 million every year for charity.

Commenting, Kate Griffiths MP said:
“Burton is the capital for British Brewing and because of our proud history, I want to see as many of our local public houses take part in this world-beating event to raise money for Shelter.
“Our pubs are renowned too, not just in their heritage but also in their generosity. We saw throughout the pandemic, how publicans stepped up to coordinate local support and deliver essentials to the vulnerable and to those shielding.
“The Government is committed to ending rough sleeping by 2024 and the charity Shelter does vital help to support those rough sleeping back into accommodation. This is a good cause and I hope that as many pubs as possible in Burton and Uttoxeter take part in the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz.”
