Kate Griffiths, Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, last week (Thursday 10th February) visited Medical Moulded Products Ltd., a company which designs and manufactures medical products for the health sector.
The Burton company based in Newborough Road invited Kate Griffiths MP to unveil Babington, the firm’s latest manufacturing machine. Each of their machines are named after figures of academic and medical importance with the newest edition named after famous physician, Benjamin Guy Babington who invented several medical instruments (including the first laryngoscope).
Once the machine and adjacent commemorative plaque were unveiled, the Burton MP was invited by company Directors Peter Lucas and Gerry Borg to tour the factory and hear about the sort of products they make. The MP also heard how at the start of the coronavirus pandemic the company designed and created a prototype element for a ventilator machine in just under two weeks.

“It was great to be able to meet Peter and Gerry from Medical Moulded Products and unveil their new production machine. The work of this Burton company is incredible and is making a significant contribution to medical sector and supporting our health professionals.
“We are fortunate to have such expertise locally and I pay credit to the team for showing just how quickly they were able to mobilise their skills at the start of the pandemic. I am confident that their new machine will help them go from strength to strength and they will continue to be an innovative force in the medical sector.”
Company Directors Peter Lucas and Gerry Borg said:
“We are delighted that Kate was able to visit us and unveil Babington, our newest manufacturing machine.
“During the global pandemic months, we received orders to manufacture many items, including 15,000 medical slides to help detect cancer cells and also a video laryngoscope to enable doctors to see down the throat of patients using smartphone technology. Day to day, we are producing injection moulded spatulas, mixing bowls, syringes, dispensers and bespoke products from concept to completion.”
