Kate Griffiths, Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter is set to have further conversations with the Environment Agency this coming Friday (29th January) over flooding issues locally in the Burton and Uttoxeter constituency.
Kate has been in frequent contact with the Environment Agency over the past few week’s since weather forecasts predicted torrential rain and flood alert warnings were issued for the Rivers Dove and Trent. Last week, river levels rose rapidly and the Dove burst its banks in Rolleston leaving many of the roads inaccessible.
Kate is asking constituents to share their experiences or if they have a potential flooding concern to get in touch ahead of her meeting with the Environment Agency so she can raise them directly.
Kate Griffiths MP said, “At this time of year flooding is always a concern, even if it doesn’t occur residents are understandably worried whenever a large amount of rain is forecast.”
“So far this winter, we just recently saw flooding locally and I have been in contact regularly with the Environment Agency over the past few weeks to ensure the necessary response and I am pleased that the situation across the constituency has now improved.”
“In places like Marchington, Rolleston and Branston water levels have receded, but we cannot be complacent. We still have some way to go with this winter season and we should always be looking for more ways to protect our local communities against these weather events.”
