Kate Griffiths, Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, has today (5th May) met with The Globe Foundation Director, Kate Copland, and team, a local non-profit eco-organisation. Based in Uttoxeter, the Foundation aims to support the move to Net Zero and to build climate resilience across the UK.
During the meeting, the local MP received a tour of their facilities and heard about the work the organisation’s volunteers were doing to encourage a greener and more sustainable future. Through their Sustainable Uttoxeter and other volunteer-led environmental projects, The Globe Foundation are working with the local community to improve environmental education and awareness to reduce our impact on the climate. Kate Griffiths is also pleased to support the launch of Staffordshire’s first Climate Expo, which will be held at Uttoxeter Racecourse this September, spearheaded by The Globe Foundation, featuring TV’s Kate Humble as the keynote speaker.
Other projects the Foundation has set up include The Repair Room where enthusiastic volunteers use their fixing skills to bring new life into much-loved old items and Precious Plastics Staffordshire which works to reuse plastic destined for landfill into new products.
Commenting, Kate Griffiths MP said:
“It was lovely to hear from Kate Copeland today about all the fantastic projects The Globe Foundation here in Uttoxeter are working on.
“Taking better care of the environment and reducing the amount of waste we use as a society are high on the priority list for many residents. The Globe Foundation are doing excellent work locally to help support and encourage people to recycle, reduce and reuse more.
“It was great to see how this local Foundation has grown from small roots to where it is today and with bold ambitions to expand. I look forward to Kate and the team’s continued success and where they go next.”
The Globe Foundation Director Kate Copeland added:
“It was fantastic to have our local MP, Kate Griffiths, visit The Globe Foundation Eco Centre today and to share the latest developments on some of our exciting projects, such as the Staffordshire Climate Expo and Carbon Literacy Training we are running.”
“We understand people maybe unsure about what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint or how to make a difference. We are there to support people in making changes to help play their individual part but also so that as a society we are able to achieve Net Zero”
