Kate Griffiths, Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, met yesterday (Thursday 16th September) with Staffordshire County Council Chief Executive, John Henderson CB, and Leader, Cllr Alan White, along with the Portfolio Holder, Cllr David Williams, and Assistant Director for Highways, James Bailey, to discuss pothole funding.
The meeting followed the MP’s successful ‘Pothole Patrol’ campaign launch, which encouraged constituents in Burton and Uttoxeter to go on a reporting drive to push roads in the eastern part of the county up the local authority’s agenda.
Discussions focussed on what more could be done to ensure Staffordshire roads see the improvements they need. Ms Griffiths and the Leader of the Council will also be meeting with the Roads Minister, Baroness Vere of Norbiton, on Monday to put forward the case for further investment so that the Council can plan work better and give more accurate timescales for completion of repairs.
During the meeting, the Chief Executive also confirmed plans are underway to fix the arterial road off the A38 into Burton, making it a better gateway to the town, which is something residents raise regularly with Kate.

“I was pleased to be able to meet with the top team at Staffordshire County Council today to discuss the condition of our local roads. We held some useful discussions about the current challenges facing the Council and what more can be done to ensure our roads get further investment.
“The Leader and I will be meeting with the Roads Minister on Monday to take these discussions forward, and to make the case to national Government to invest in our highways, which are so important to us all.”
