Burton and Uttoxeter’s Member of Parliament, Kate Griffiths, has today (Monday 5th April) met with farmers from the local agriculture sector to discuss current issues facing the industry.
As part of regular catch ups between the MP and the local farmers, food security, the conflict in Ukraine and rising costs of fuel and fertiliser prices were raised along with what might be done to further help British farmers overcome present challenges.
The meeting, which took place at Lower Loxley Farm, was also an opportunity for the local MP to brief farmers on her recent meeting with the Farming Minister, Victoria Prentis, in Westminster and highlight what action the Government is taking to support British farmers and the agriculture industry.
Commenting, Kate Griffiths MP said:
“East Staffordshire is home to some brilliant farmers and produces, but they too are not immune from the rising costs of raw materials and the crisis in Ukraine is having an impact on global agriculture.
When I recently met with the Farming Minister I was assured that the Government is well aware of the issues facing the sector but I am grateful to local farmers sharing their concerns with me this morning and I will make sure that these are voiced with ministerial colleagues in Westminster.”
Local NFU Agent, Alex Broome, added:
“British farmers remain committed to producing high quality food and feeding the nation, but this is increasingly challenging considering the difficulties facing farmers.
“Our local farmers are grateful to Kate for meeting today and her time. We always find these meetings and the dialogue very important and are pleased she will be raising our concerns with Government ministers.
