It was wonderful to be able to attend the Sustainable Uttoxeter Gala Dinner at the start of Great Big Green Week.
It's been an important occasion in helping to recognise just how far the UK has come in addressing the problem of climate change, but also what there is still to do if we are to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The Government has recently made a number of announcements to help the UK meet this ambitious goal, including £160 million more for offshore wind, as well as producing the UK’s first ever Hydrogen Strategy—designed to unleash the potential of this low carbon alternative.
Locally, global brand JCB is developing zero-carbon hydrogen combustion engines to power the vehicles of tomorrow, and I know for sure that in Staffordshire we will continue to lead the way to a more sustainable future.
