Burton and Uttoxeter’s MP, Kate Griffiths, is hosting a free online webinar for businesses in her constituency interested in taking part in the Government’s new Kickstart Scheme to help young people secure work placements.
The Kickstart Scheme was introduced by the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, to create new job placements for 16 to 24-year olds on Universal Credit and at risk from long-term unemployment. Businesses which are able to guarantee the 6-month positions will receive full funding for the wages of the participant and associated employer costs such as National Insurance and automatic enrolment contributions.
The webinar will take place on Friday 20th November 2020 at 2pm and local representatives from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will also be taking part in the call and be on hand to answer questions businesses may have.
Kate Griffiths MP said, “The Kickstart Scheme is an important part of the Government’s plan to support people back into the workplace. I am grateful to have representatives from the local DWP team involved in the webinar and they will be able to help with questions businesses may have about taking part in the Scheme.”
“I would encourage all those businesses, large or small, that are interested in taking part in the Scheme or just want to hear a little more about it, to join the webinar and see if this is something that could be mutually beneficial to their businesses as well as a young person.”
Nik Hardy, owner of Hardy Signs Ltd. and President of the Burton and District Chamber of Commerce said, "The ‘Kickstart’ scheme represents great potential for young people who are looking to secure work placements. As a business owner, and as President of the Burton and District Chamber of Commerce, I’m only too pleased that the Government is acting on a plan to support young people back in to the workplace. Thank you to MP Kate Griffiths for her enthusiasm and focus on this topic, the business community will need every ounce of the Government’s support in rebuilding the economy and our young people will be instrumental to that process in the coming years. I have always been a great advocate of work placements and will very much look forward to this webinar, to see what opportunities there will be - for both employer and young employee.
