Commenting on the news that ESBC intends to compulsory purchase the Maltings Shopping Centre in Uttoxeter, Kate Griffiths MP said:

I welcome the move by East Staffordshire Borough Council to compulsory purchase the Maltings Shopping Centre in Uttoxeter. This will help set a new course for town centre regeneration and help sustain a strong future for our historic market town.

When I undertook my town regeneration surveys last year there was strong public support to regenerate this site and to redevelop it into something that residents can be proud to visit again as part of the town centre. I will work with local councillors and the public to ensure that the views of residents are fed into the redevelopment process as new life is released into the Maltings area.

The Council will vote on the compulsory purchase order at tonight's Full Council meeting.
