VIDEO: Kate Griffiths MP raises communicating with BAME communities the importance of getting a vaccine with the Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch
Burton’s MP, Kate Griffiths, has urged constituents eligible for a coronavirus vaccine who not been invited for their initial dose to book a jab at Burton’s first pop-up vaccine clinic.
The pop-up clinic is being hosted at the community centre at Central Jamia Mosque Rizvia on Uxbridge Street, on Friday 5th March between 2pm and 4pm and joins the mass vaccination centre at the Pirelli Stadium in the local rollout of the inoculation programme.
Residents of Shobnall, Anglesey, Eton Park and Horninglow have just one day left to book their slot at a special pop-up vaccine clinic. Residents must pre-book a slot and fit one of the following criteria and have not received their first dose already:
- Residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
- Frontline health and social care workers
- All those 65 years of age and over
- Adults who have received a letter from the NHS notifying them that they are clinically extremely vulnerable
- People aged over 16 in clinical risk groups
Kate Griffiths MP said: “Over the past several months the town wards of Burton on Trent have been frequently on the list of hotspot areas for COVID-19 infections. I welcome the initiative of the NHS and Staffordshire County Council to bring the vaccination programme to the heart of the community, the first of its kind that we have seen locally.
I want to pay tribute also to the Central Jamia Mosque Rizvia and Mohammed Haroon, Chairman of the Burton Welfare Association, for hosting this important pop-up vaccine clinic. It is well documented that BAME communities are more at risk from the virus and so it is really important that those eligible now to receive the vaccine get the jab”.
To book a test please call Staffordshire County Council on 0300 111 8050. Residents have until 5pm today (Tuesday 2nd March) to book a slot for this coming Friday.
