Burton Soup Kitchen has received a timely Christmas donation from Russell Roof Tiles following an introduction by the local Member of Parliament, Kate Kniveton.
Burton Soup Kitchen Chairman, Gary Steen, highlighted to Ms Kniveton they were in need of additional funding, which is when the MP put the local voluntary organisation in touch with the Managing Director of Russell Roof Tiles, Andrew Hayward, based in Burton.
The local tiling company presented a cheque for £7,400 which Mr Steen said was “overwhelmingly generous”. The funding will, together with the organisation’s reserves, secure the Soup Kitchen financially for the next two years.
Established in 2007, Burton Soup Kitchen supports homeless and vulnerable people locally. The Soup Kitchen’s mission is not only to provide a hot meal for visitors but to also provide support and a sense of community to everyone that comes through their doors.

“I was pleased to be able to put Gary from Burton Soup Kitchen in touch with Andrew Hayward from Russell Roof Tiles and for them to subsequently to receive a substantial donation. We are incredibly lucky in Burton to have a business community with such a strong sense of purpose, wanting to give something back to their local area.
“Burton Soup Kitchen does an incredible job supporting the most vulnerable in our community and I am delighted that this donation will enable them to carry on with their vital work.”
Russell Roof Tiles Managing Director, Andrew Hayward added:
“It is because of the generosity of our staff and partners over the past 12 months that we’ve been able to raise money to support local organisations such as Burton Soup Kitchen so that they can continue the vital work they do for our community.”
Over the last year the team at Russell Roof Tiles have taken part in some gruelling and inspiring challenges, with the most daunting being a 10,000ft tandem skydive, as well as bake sales, golf matches, weight loss and walking challenges, a family fun day and most recently the Big Quiz at the Pirelli Stadium.
