Kate Kniveton, Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, recently visited St. Modwen’s Catholic Primary School to meet with the school’s Parliament and to answer pupils’ questions on her role as their representative in Westminster.
Ms Kniveton met with Nadia Orbzut, Leader of the School Parliament, and her fellow pupil MPs along with Mr Thomas Brassington, Year 3 teacher and School Parliament lead. Nadia told the local MP how the student council had recently been refreshed and now provides representation for pupils of all year groups, making sure all voices are heard and able to put forward suggestions to improve the school.
As part of Ms Kniveton’s visit, the local MP also answered their questions on her role as Burton and Uttoxeter’s representative in the House of Commons ahead of their own visit to Westminster later this month.
Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP said:
“I want to thank St Modwen’s School Parliament for their hospitality and for inviting me along to speak with them. In particular, I want to thank Nadia and Mr Brassington for the work they have done to re-establish the School Parliament. Ensuring that everyone has a voice is critical for a healthy democracy and so it is great to see this being instilled and an early age.
“Thank you very much again for inviting me to visit St Modwen’s Catholic Primary School and I hope you all enjoy your upcoming trip to the Houses of Parliament in Westminster!”
