Burton and Uttoxeter’s MP, Kate Griffiths, is encouraging constituents to get in touch with her to share their ideas about how our area could be improved following the confirmation that Burton and Uttoxeter would be eligible to put a bid in for the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
During a parliamentary question session today, the Minister for Local Government, Eddie Hughes MP, confirmed to Kate Griffiths that—following on from her success in securing £22.8 million of funding from the Government’s Towns Fund—East Staffordshire would also be eligible for putting in a bid to the Levelling Up Fund.
The Government’s Levelling Up Fund is designed to regenerate town centres, secure new infrastructure, and improve existing roads and community spaces.
East Staffordshire Borough Council would be responsible for drawing up any proposals, but a bid must have the support of the local Member of Parliament.
Kate Griffiths MP is keen to hear from local residents with their ideas for improving their community.
Kate Griffiths, MP for Burton and Uttoxeter, said:
“It is absolutely fantastic that we have been able to secure £22.8 million for Burton town centre from the Government’s Towns Fund as part of the recent Budget. This investment will make such a positive difference to Burton’s town centre, and ensure we are able to attract people back onto our high street.
“I was delighted that the Local Government Minister, Eddie Hughes MP, confirmed we would also be eligible to apply for funding from another Government scheme—the Levelling up Fund—in a bid to secure further cash for our area.
“I am really keen that local residents across the Burton and Uttoxeter constituency get in touch with their suggestions about what they want to see improved.
“I will then share all of these ideas with local councils as we begin to put together a strong and positive bid to secure yet more funding for improvements to our communities.”
